Fans will be treated to a Sun Belt vs. BIG TEN clash Thursday (8:05 pm ET) when the Golden Gophers of Minnesota head south to play Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro, Tenn. Oddsmakers opened betting with the Blue Raiders favored by five but after news of the schools starting quarterback Dwight Dasher's suspension, BetUS has since adjusted the line favoring the Golden Gophers by -3 with a posted game total of 48 1/2.
The Blue Raiders are coming off a stellar 10-3 season and a New Orleans Bowl win over Southern Mississippi. MTSU is riding a seven-game winning streak, the third longest in the nation. The team is picked to win the Sun Belt Conference and has received some votes in the national football polls.
Replacing Dasher for the Blue Raiders will be sophomore Logan Kilgore, a juco transfer. He led Bakersfield Junior College he led the team to a 10-2 record and was named his leagues MVP. He passed for 2,512 yards and 22 touchdowns as a freshman. Kilgore will be throwing to a bevy of talented, experienced receivers. Veterans Garrett Andrews, Shane Blissard, Sancho McDonald, Malcolm Beyah, Tavarres Jefferson, and Harold Turner, as well as lightning-quick newcomer Tyler Mason, will be part of a 12-15 man rotation among the receivers.
For Minnesota, three-time captain Adam Weber will be taking the opening snap of the season for the fourth straight year. He has taken virtually every meaningful snap for the past three seasons.
This game presents sort of a mystery matching these two teams. The Golden Gophers are entering dangerous territory against a MTSU team that plays very good defense. The Sun Belt has a habit of winning games like this and Thursday night will be no different. Take the Blue Raiders and the points.
