Rutgers, ranked No.16 in both polls , opened the season in impressive fashion last Thursday with a 38-3 victory over Buffalo covering the -32 point line ATS. The Midshipmen opened the 2007 season with a 30-19 victory at Temple last Friday night in Philadelphia. The 11 point Navy win fell short of the -22 point spread established by oddsmakers. The Scarlet Knights look to extend their winning streak vs. Navy to three games. Last season, Rutgers defeated the Mids 34-0 in Annapolis. In the win, Rutgers limited the nation’s top rushing offense to 113 yards on 50 attempts as Navy was shutout for the first time since 2002. Rutgers held Navy to nine first downs in the game, the fewest amount for the Mids since 2002. The Scarlet Knights have won eight straight home games (school-record at the “new” Rutgers Stadium), with their last loss to South Florida in 2005. During the eight-game winning streak, RutgersRutgers has yielded just 8.5 points per game during the streak. has averaged 35.6 points per game, including two consecutive games with 38 points. On defense, Rutgers All-America running back and Heisman Trophy candidate Ray Rice only needs 17 yards to become the all-time leader in rushing. Rice rushed for 184 yards and three touchdowns in the season-opening win vs. Buffalo to increase his career total to 3,098 rushing yards, just 16 yards behind Terrell Willis (1993-95) in the Rutgers annals.
