Oddsmakers are banking on the public's mentality that SMU is not very good and the Red Raiders score tons of points. The reality of the matter is, SMU is the team with the high flying offense and who on earth knows what Tuberville's Red Raiders will do. It was his lack of knowledge on the forward pass that pushed him out the door at Auburn. So now Tuberville thinks he can bring an exciting brand of passing game to Lubbock? One thing Tuberville does bring is good defensive mentality.
SMU made a huge turnaround last year improving from a 1-11 record in 2008 to 8-5 in 2009. Then the Pony's blew out Nevada in the Hawaii Bowl by the score of 45-10.
It's true that SMU hasn't been very good for a few decades now. The last time the Mustangs beat Tech was in 1986 when they pulled off a 13-6 shocker in Lubbock. But these two teams have gone through big changes and old trends don't factor in. What happened the past ten years or so at both schools is comparing apples and oranges.
