NCAA Football Point Spreads 2012 Week 2

ucla franklinNCAA Football Point Spreads 2012 Week 2 are going off right now as the second week of play get underway tomorrow night with a battle between Big East rivals Pittsburgh and Cincinnati (the hosting Bearcats are giving four points in the latest odds release). Per usual, Saturday represents the bulk of the action with 23 top 25 teams taking to the gridiron. Among the most anticipated match-ups are showdowns between Georgia and Missouri, Miami and Kansas State, Washington and LSU, Nebraska and UCLA, and Oklahoma State and Arizona. NCAA Football Point Spreads like the road team in most of those pairings as the Bulldogs (-2), Huskers (-5.5), and Cowboys (-10.5) are all giving points to their host.

Nebraska Cornhuskers vs UCLA Bruins (+5.5, O/U 60 points): Nebraska, a -20 College Football Picks favorite in its opener last weekend, will travel to Southern California this week to face an unknown commodity in Jim Mora Jr’s UCLA Bruins. Both teams got it done last weekend, though, with Nebraska earning a win and cover with a 49-20 victory over Southern Miss and the Bruins doing the same, taking out Rice 49-24 as a 16 point favorite. The Huskers come into this game a bit banged up as running back Rex Burkhead sprained his MCL in Saturday’s win over the Knights. Burkhead, who rushed for 1357 yards and 15 touchdowns last season, racked up 68 yards and one touchdown before exiting against Southern Miss. He is listed as questionable for Saturday’s meeting with UCLA. The Bruins were a disappointment last year, finishing with a 6-8 record, but they could be a surprise team in 2012 with 16 starters and 51 lettermen back. The team certainly looked solid against a less than formidable Rice squad as it pounded out 646 total yards (343 rush yards on 37 carries). UCLA’s defense, which had difficulty stopping the run last season (191 rush yards per game allowed, 5.2 ypca), also turned in a respectable performance, holding the Owls to 174 yards on 48 rushes (3.6 ypca).

Should Burkhead play in this game, the edge goes to Nebraska; however, if he is unable to go, it puts more pressure on quarterback Taylor Martinez. Martinez has produced some brilliant efforts as a Husker, including last weekend’s 354 yard, five touchdown outing, but he has also caved under pressure at times, particularly on the road. The Bruins could pull off a surprise here if Martinez does not have the security blanket of Burkhead in the backfield.
