I feel Boise State has fewer weaknesses than Virginia Tech. When you return 21-of-22 starters, the word team becomes more significant. These guys know how to play together as a team. Another thing the Broncos do that is impressive, when challenged they step up to it. Most teams from BCS leagues have not ever seen a BCS bowl. Boise State has made it to BCS land twice in the past four years, winning both times. In 2008 and 2009 the Broncos played Oregon in a home and home series — the Bronco's won both. Oregon went on to win the Pac-10 championship.
Boise State has a reputation for playing wide-open on offense and scoring lots of points. The truth is, Boise State now hangs its hat on its defense. This is not saying their offense isn't as good, they are just more balanced. Boise State does score lots of points but they don't give up many.
If the Broncos have a weakness it's in their running game. You don't see the big powerful backs who can take it to the house. Virginia Tech can counter with its running game that is its strength. A key to the game is how well does BSU stop Tech's big backs defensively and how will Boise State's running game perform.
