The latest Arizona vs Oklahoma State spreads have the Cowboys listed as a -14 against the spread home favorite oppsoite the team they beat 36-10 in last year's Alamo Bowl.
OKlahoma State finished a surprising 11-2 last season thanks to an offense that averaged 44.2 points per game. If
Saturday's season opener against Louisiana-Lafayette is any indication, Head Coach Mike Gundy can expect his team to match last year's gaudy numbers.
The Cowboys smashed the Ragin' Cajuns 61-34 after racking up 31 first downs and 666 yards of offense. Quaterback Brandon Weeden completed 24-of-39 passes for 388 yards, three touchdowns, and three interceptions in the win. Weeden's favorite target, wide receiver Justin Blackmon, also had a big game, reeling in eight passes for 144 yards, but he failed to catch a touchdown in the blowout victory.
Defensively Oklahoma State gave up 19 first downs and 320 yards to the Cajuns, who won the time of possession battle 31:00 to 29:00. While Louisiana-Lafayette did score 34 points, two of the team's four touchdowns came on interception returns.
Arizona also had an impressive debut to the 2011 season, pounding Northern Arizona 41-10 in a game it led just 14-10 at the break. The Wildcats Nick Foles, who tossed three picks in last year's bowl loss to the Cowboys, threw for 412 yards and five touchdowns in the route of the Lumberjacks.
Mike Stoops' squad, which lost 11 starters from last season's 7-6 team, produced 487 total yards in just under 24 minutes of possession. The Lumberjacks finished the afternoon with a total of 16 first downs and 259 yards.
When these two teams hooked up in the Alamo Bowl the Pokes offense turned in a sub-par performance by their standards, totaling just 17 first downs and 312 yards; however, four Wildcat turnovers and a nine catch, 117 yard, two touchdown night from Blackmon proved too much for Arizona to overcome.
Expect a more inspired offensive showing from OSU on Thursday night as it tops the 40 point mark for the tenth time in its last 15 games.
