2010 College Football Rankings Week 2: Boise State was able to use a 33-30 Labor Day victory over Virginia Tech to leap frog Florida and Texas to No. 3 in the updated USA-Today/Coaches Poll released on Tuesday. The Broncos remained at No. 3 in the AP Poll behind No. 1 Alabama and 2 Ohio State. The Broncos, who covered as a +1 BetUS.com underdog , have a bye for week 2 and will next play a road game at Wyoming Sept. 18.
Retaining its No. 1 ranking in both AP and coaches polls, Alabama easily defeated San Jose State 48-3, covering the 39 1/2 BetUS point spread. Alabama gets a stiff challenge this Saturday when they host No. 18(AP) Penn State.
Ohio State remains No. 2 in both polls after its 45-7 victory over C-USA member Marshall. The Buckeyes, lined as -28 1/2 chalk favorites, covered in their 38 point win. The Buckeyes host No. 12 Miami(Fla.) on Saturday in a game carrying BCS championship implications. Ohio State is favored by 9 1/2 vs. Miami on the BetUS college board.
TCU jumped to No.4 in the AP and 5 in the coaches polls after their 30-21 victory over No. 24 Oregon State on Friday (Sept. 4). TCU failed to cover as a 13-1/2 favorite. The Horn Frogs next play Tennessee Tech of the FCS Ohio Valley Conference win week-2.
Texas remained No. 5 in the AP and 4 Coaches polls. Voters were not impressed with the Longhorns 17 point win versus Rice in week-1. The Horns failed to cover the -31 1/2 BetUS line. The Longhorns host Wyoming in week-2, lined as 31 1/2 point BetUS favorites.
Nebraska moves from 8th to 6th in the AP and 9th to 7th in the Coaches polls. The Cornhuskers soundly defeated the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers 49-10 in week-1, failing to cash as a -39 1/2 point favoite. Nebraska is a -28 1/2 point favorite when they host Idaho in week-2.
Oregon jumped to 7th(AP) and 8th (USAToday/Coaches) from 11th in both polls after their impressive 72-0 beat-down of New Mexico. The Ducks were favored by -36 in that game. Oregon travels to play Tennessee in Knoxville in a big Pac-10/SEC battle. BetUS oddsmakers installed the Ducks as -13 point favorites in that game.
Florida did not impress voters by sputtering to a 34-12 victory over unhearlded Miami(Ohio) in week-1. The Gators droped to 8th from 4th (AP) and to 6th from 3rd (Coaches). The Gators failed to cover the -38 line in the SU win. The Gators will be challenged by South Florida in wee-2 as -15 1/2 favorites.
Iowa stayed in 9th in the AP, but dropped to 10th in the Coaches poll after their 37-7 win over FCS Eastern Illinois in week-1. The Hawkeyes host Iowa State in week-2 as -13 1/2 point favoites.
Oklahoma fell to 10th in both polls after their narrow 31-24 win over Utah State in week-1 where they were favored by 34 1/2 on the BetUS board. The Sooners will catch a fired up Florida State squad in week-2. OU is favored by -8 1/2 vs. the Seminoles.
Wisconsin holds down 11th in both polls followed by Miami in 12th and Virginia Tech 13th. Arkansas is No. 14 in the AP poll and Penn State in the Coaches poll. Georgia Tech is No. 15 in the AP and 17 Coaches while Arkansas is No. 15 in the coaches. USC dropped to 16th in the AP and is not ranked in the Coaches poll.
Florida State is No. 17/18 AP/Coaches followed by Penn State at 18 in the AP. LSU is 19th in the AP and 16th coaches. Both polls agree on Utah at No. 20 and Auburn at 21. Georgia is No. 22 in the AP with West Virginia No. 22 in the Coaches poll. The Mountaineers show up at No. 23 in the AP while Arizona makes its debut in the Coaches poll at 23. South Carolina debuts in the AP at No. 24 and BYU shows up No. 24 in the Coaches poll. STanford is 25th in the AP while South Carolina is No. 25 in the Coaches.
