College Football Predictions 2012 Week 2

by Matt Foust on Saturday, September 8th, 2012

oklahoma state randleCollege Football Predictions 2012 Week 2 gets underway in earnest today with most of the top 25 in action. The are intriguing match-ups all over the board, but one team that bears keeping an eye this weekend, and throughout the season, is No. 18 Oklahoma State. The Cowboys lost a lot of talent on the offensive side of the ball, but the last time that happened in Stillwater the likes of Brandon Weeden , Justin Blackmon, and Joseph Randle took over for Zac Robinson, Dez Bryant, and Kendall Hunter. Mike Gundy’s new look crew, which features a true freshman quarterback in Wes Lunt (caution: speak slowly), will face its first real test of the season this evening when it takes on Arizona in Tucson. The latest College Football Point Spreads see the Pokes passing with flying colors as they are presently lined as a -10.5 against the spread favorite.

Oklahoma State Cowboys at Arizona Wildcats (+10.5): While not a great deal can be determined from Oklahoma State’s win last weekend over FCS Savannah State, it is safe to say the Cowboys third stringers are still light year’s better than the Tigers’ starters. Mike Gundy called off the dogs early as Lunt only threw 11 passes (11-for-11 for 129 yards) and Randle carried the ball just six times (107 yards, two touchdown), but still his team won 84-0. Gundy, most likely, will not have that luxury tonight. While Arizona is no juggernaut, it does present a bigger challenge and one not to be taken lightly as Head Coach Rich Rodriguez attempts to revive his once promising career. Some preseason College Football Predictions had the Wildcats finishing second to USC in the Pac 12′s South Division this year, but not everyone is so optimistic about the program’s chances. Rodriguez takes over a team that went 4-8 last year, and it nearly dropped last weekend’s season opener, edging Toledo 24-17 in overtime despite securing a 624 to 358 total yards advantage over the Rockets. The Cowboys have not been known for their defense under Gundy, but this year’s unit could be the best of the Gundy era. If the Wildcats hope to beat Oklahoma State they will need to do a much better job of converting those yards into points.
