Auburn vs Mississippi State 2010 College Football Odds, 2010 College Football Picks & 2010 College Football Predictions: Auburn and Mississippi State get their respective conference schedules started early as the two SEC West rivals square off at Davis Wade Stadium in Starkville, Mississippi tomorrow night. Thursday's game is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30pm ET on ESPN. 2010 College Football Odds, Picks & Predictions at Sportsbook.com have the Tigers listed as a -2.5 against the spread road favorite; the Over/Under is set at 54.
Head Coach Gene Chizik continued his Auburn transformation project last weekend as the Tigers poored 52 points on
Arkansas State in their home opener. Auburn, which has traditionally been a more defensive oriented power, has become an offensive machine under Chizik's watch and never was that more apparant than in the team's shellacking of the Red Wolves.
Not only did the Tigers post 52 points, they also racked up 608 total yards (25:37 time of possession), 367 of which came on the ground at a 7.5 yards per carry clip. The star of the show for Auburn was junior quarterback Cameron Newton, who completed 9-of-14 passes for 186 yards and three touchdowns while also rushing for 171 yards and two scores on 15 carries.
Mississippi State was just as impressive against an outclassed Memphis squad, scoring a 49-7 season opening win over the Tigers in Starkville. The Bulldogs produced 28 first downs and 569 yards in the easy victory while converting 5-of-10 on third down. Dan Mullen's offense, which averaged a staggering 18.6 yards per pass, completed touchdowns passes of 55, 20, 27, 57, and 25 yards with four of those coming from backup signal caller Tyler Russell.
Mississippi State's defense limited Memphis to nine first downs and 237 yards in the win. The Tigers, which tossed two interceptions, managed just 41 rush yards on 21 attempts.
Auburn has got the better of things in this matchup of late, winning four of the last five games, including 34-0 and 3-2 victories at Mississippi State. The Tigers also got a 49-24 win last season at Jordan-Hare Stadium, playing as a 14 point home favorite in Chizik's first year as head coach.
College Football Odds Betting Trend: Auburn is 10-0 straight up (6-4 against the spread) in its last 10 games as a road favorite against an SEC foe in the month of September. The Tigers are 5-0 straight up and 4-1 against the spread in their last five games as a road favorite against the Bulldogs.
