No. 23 West Virginia romped its way to 31-0 win over Coastal Carolina last weekend at Mountaineer Field. Sophomore West Virginia vs Marshall 2010 College Football Picks, Predictions & Oddsquarterback Geno Smith had a nice starting debut, completing 20-of-27 passes for 216 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception. Smith guided the offense, which turned the ball over three times, to 18 first downs and 400 total yards.

Heisman candidate Noel Devine racked up 111 yards in 23 carries and also scored on a four yard run in the fourth quarter. Devine caught two passes for 18 yards and returned one kick for 15.

The Mountaineers defense limited the Chanticleers to nine first downs and 186 total yards in the tune up victory.

Marshall did not fare as well in its season opener as No. 2 Ohio State blasted the Thundering Herd 45-7 in Columbus. Marshall produced 11 first downs and 199 yards in the loss, which also saw Doc Holliday's team average a paltry 2.1 yards per carry.

The Buckeyes had a much easier time moving the ball on the Thundering Herd's defense, finishing the game with 529 total yards. Quarterback Terrelle Pryor concluded the day with 247 pass yards and three touchdowns.

Holliday, who served as West Virginia's recruiting coordinator last season, is anticipating another difficult matchup against the Mountaineers, but he is hopeful his defense can rebound from last week's dismal effort.

"Noel Devine at some point is going to make some plays. He will break one here or there," Holliday said. "He is a great player and they have Jock Sanders who can beat you and Tavon Austin and Geno Smith making good decisions. They create a lot of problems for a defense, but what you have to do is get 11 guys lined up not thinking, but playing hard and running to the ball and then you have a chance."

West Virginia is 5-0 (3-1-1 against the spread) in this series, including a 24-7 win last year in Morgantown. Devine thundered over the Herd in that victory, carrying the ball 19 times for 103 yards and two touchdowns.

2010 College Football Picks Betting Trend: West Virginia is 7-0 straight up and 5-1-1 against the spread over the last four years playing as a -10 or more road favorite coming off a win. The Mountaineers averaged 37.7 points per game and won by an average of 21.7 points in those seven games.
