Alabama vs Penn State Spreads 2011 College Football Picks: Week two of the college football season sports a number of marquee match ups but there are none bigger than Saturday's meeting between No. 2 Alabama and No. 23 Penn State. The SEC/Big Ten clash is scheduled to get underway at 3:30pm ET at Beaver Stadium in University Park, Pennsylvania. 2011 College Football Picks have the visiting Crimson Tide listed as a -10 against the spread favorite in tomorrow's big boy showdown.
When Penn State and Alabama hooked up in Tuscaloosa last season, Nick Saban's squad had little difficulty exercising its 
dominance over the Nittany Lions. The Tide won the game 24-3 after limiting Joe Paterno's troops to 283 total yards.
Freshman quarterback Rob Boldin had an especially difficult afternoon as he completed just 13 of his 29 pass attempts for 144 yards and two interceptions. Conversely, Alabama's Greg McElroy threw for 229 yards and two scores in the double-digit victory.
Boldin did not look much better in the Lions 41-7 stomping of Indiana State last weekend when he completed 6-of-12 passes for a mere 37 yards. Penn State did not need a big effort from Boldin, though, as its defense held the Sycamores to 170 yards of offense in the season opening route.
Alabama's tandem of young signal callers, A.J. McCarron and Phillip Sims, also struggled in last weekend's action with the pair combining for one touchdown and four interceptions. Fortunately for the Tide, the turnovers mattered little as Alabama's suffocating defense, which returned 10 starters for last year's unit, held the MAC's Kent State Golden Flashes to six first downs and 90 yards of offense in a 48-7 win.
Penn State's offense should be much better this time around, especially playing at home, but the Nittany Lions will still find it difficult to move the ball against Saban's defense. However, Alabama's offense may not be the equal of last year's version, at least not yet, and the Happy Valley crowd is certain to give McCarron and Sims a not-so-warm welcome.
Given that an offensive explosion from either squad seems unlikely, the 10 point spread may be a bit much here. The better play: under the 41.5 point total.
