West Virginia vs Marshall 2010 College Football Picks

by Reno Gold on Friday, September 10th, 2010

West Virginia vs Marshall 2010 College Football Picks: The Marshall University Thundering Herd football team (C-USA) will host the No. 22 ranked University of West Virginia Mountaineers (BIG EAST) Friday (7 pm ET, ESPN) in a rivalry game at Joan Edwards Stadium on the Marshall campus. Bodog.com lists the Mountaineers as -13 chalk favorites in this game with a 46 total.

Playing a ranked team at home should not be too intimidating for the Thundering Herd after opening their season on the road at No. 2 Ohio State in week-1. Marshall went into the game as 28 1/2-chalk underdogs, and lost 45-7.

The Mountaineers had an easier time of it last Saturday by opening with Coastal Carolina, a school from the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) at Morgantown. West Virginia was a 31-0 SU winner but failed to cover the 42-point spread as favorites.

West Virginia has won all nine meetings in the series between the two schools. All but two of the previous games were played in Morgantown. This is the third game of this rivalry to be played at Huntington.

Betting fans should consider a few trends before wagering on the game. West Virginia is 12-4 SU in its last 16 games and is 17-8 SU in its last 25 games on the road. The total has gone OVER in four of West Virginia's last six road games. Something might have to give on the total because it has gone UNDER in five of Marshall's last six games at home.

Marshall is 5-2 SU in its last seven games at  home but is only 2-4 in its last six games anywhere.

Reno Gold Picks: I look for Marshall to be inspired for about 2 1/2 quarters. Then the Mounties superior talent will win over and take them to a two touchdwon win. Take WVU -13.
