College Football Saturday – 2010 Week 2 Odds: The opening week of college football didn't provide many surprises, but it did provide some good football, and good betting action. This Saturday's slate is highlighted by three meetings between six of college football's traditional powers. First, the Florida State Seminoles visit Norman to take on the Oklahoma Sooners (3:30 pm Eastern, ABC). And the Ohio State Buckeyes welcome the Miami Hurricanes to the Horseshoe (3:30, ESPN). And later, the defending national champion Alabama Crimson Tide hosts the Penn State Nittany Lions (7 pm, ESPN).
Alabama is the top-ranked team in the land, coming off a season-opening 48-3 beating of San Jose State. Ohio State is No. 2, having beaten Marshall 45-7 last week. Oklahoma is No. 10 in the AP poll, after struggling a bit to beat Utah State last week 31-24. Miami is No. 12, after blanking Florida A&M last week 45-0. Florida State is No. 17, after trouncing Samford 59-6. And Penn State is No. 18 in the AP poll, coming off a 44-14 victory over Youngstown State last week.
As of Saturday morning BetUS.com is listing the Sooners as 7-point favorites for Saturday's game over FSU; the Buckeyes as 8.5-point chalk over the 'Canes; and 'Bama is giving JoePa and his boys 12.5 points.
In other BetUS.com college football action Saturday, the No. 15 Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are 14-point road favorites at the Kansas Jayhawks (noon); the No. 22 Georgia Bulldogs are 3-point road underdogs at the No. 24 South Carolina Gamecocks (noon, ESPN2); the unranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish are 4-point home favorites over the unranked Michigan Wolverines (3:30 , NBC); the No. 7 Oregon Ducks are 12.5-point road faves at the unranked Tennessee Volunteers (7 pm, ESPN2); and in a Pac-10 nightcap the No. 25 Stanford Cardinal are 6.5-point road chalk at the unranked UCLA Bruins (10:30, ESPN).
Last week the AP's Top 25 went 18-1 straight up vs. unranked teams, but just 4-6-2 against the pointspreads. And among the three games that matched two ranked teams, the higher-ranked teams went 2-1 both SU and ATS.
