Georgia vs South Carolina 2010 College Football Predictions

by Reno Gold on Saturday, September 11th, 2010

Georgia vs South Carolina College Football Predictions: The No. 22(AP) ranked Georgia Bulldogs (1-0) will bus over to Columbia S.C., to play the No. 24 University of South Carolina Gamecocks (1-0) in the 2010 Southeastern Conference opener for both squads (Noon ET, ESPN2). Carolina and Georgia are coming off blowout week-1 wins at home, Georgia routing Louisiana-Lafayette 55-7 while USC took care of Southern Mississippi 41-13. The Gamecocks and Bulldogs have opened their SEC seasons against each other since USC joined the league in 1992. Georgia holds an all-time 46-12-2 edge in the series.

Georgia vs South Carolina 2010 College Football PredictionsBodog.com oddsmakers give the Gamecocks the slight 3-chalk edge in this one with a 47 total. Georgia backers are getting +135 odds on the Bodog moneyline as the underdog while South Carolina is giving -155.

Georgia covered the Bodog point spread in its game with the Ragin' Cajuns as a 29-point favorite, while the 62 combined points took the game OVER the total. South Carolina covered the 13-point spread in their first game of the season with USM.

Carolina produced 449 yards of total offense last week, split almost equally – 224 yards on the ground and 225 yards through the air. Stephen Garcia completed 16-of-23 passes for 193 yards and had five rushes for 38 yards and 2 TDs against Southern Miss. Carolina averaged 6.9 yards per play in the win.

The complete Bulldog front proved effective in the new 3-4 scheme as the Ragin' Cajuns were held to just 14 yards rushing and 128 yards overall (ULL's only score of the game came on a 60-yard TD pass). Despite playing in only 10 games as a sophomore, Justin Houston finished second in the SEC in 2009 with a team-leading 7.5 sacks and 15 tackles for loss. Houston picked up where he left off in the 2010 opener by recording a sack and two tackles. Senior ILB Akeem Dent tied for a team-high six tackles, including a sack, against the Ragin' Cajuns. Sporting three new starters in the secondary, the Bulldog cornerbacks and safeties recorded three INTs and allowed just eight completions versus ULL.

In his Georgia debut, Aaron Murray completed 17-of-26 passes for 160 yards and three touchdowns against Louisiana-Lafayette.

The Gamecocks owe Georgia one. They have the more balanced team on both sides of the ball. The problem with USC is in execution. One never knows what will show up from one Saturday to the next. On paper this game should belong to the Gamecocks but games aren't played on paper. My pick is South Carolina SU (-155 ML).
