What this game presents is two explosive offenses led by experienced quarterbacks. For USF, quarterback Matt Groethe throws the ball very well, yet also runs the ball very well in a designed run game. USF has various plays that are designed for the quarterback to carry the football in the same fashion that a tailback would carry the ball. Defensively, they are very good. They have some outstanding defensive players, including George Selvie, who is probably recognized as one of the top defensive ends in college football.
USF will need to put some pressure on KU junior quarterback Todd Reesing to keep him off balance. Reesing is accurate and doesn’t make many mistakes. He has attempted 44 straight passes without an interception entering the USF game. He started the season throwing 45 straight before throwing his only pick on his 46th attempt in the fourth quarter against FIU in the school’s opener.
While Reesing does not receive the attention a lot of Big 12 quarterbacks receive, he has been as good this year as he was last season, when he earned All-Big 12 Second Team honors in leading Kansas to the FedEx Orange Bowl and a 12-1 record.
