East Carolina vs West Virginia College Football Odds, College Football Predictions & College Football Picks: The East Carolina Pirates and the West Virginia Mountaineers are ready for the sequel to last year's stunning 24-3 Pirate win in Greenville. The rematch will take place in Morgantown at 3:30pm ET today at Mountaineer Field. College Football Odds at Bodog.com have West Virginia listed as a -6.5 against the spread favorite. East Carolina faced a different group of Mountaineers last weekend, Quarterback Patrick Pinkney had a miserable day, completing just 12-of-27 for 131 yards, a touchdown, and two interceptions. Fortunately for Head Coach Skip Holtz, his running game was in good form, cranking out 189 yards on the strength of a 105 yard performance from tail back Dominique Lindsay. The Pirates' defense held Appalachian to just 246 total yards, but they did give up 17 fourth quarter points to make the score a little too close for comfort. West Virginia also opened their season with an FCS 'tune up' as they took on the Liberty Flames in Morgantown. The Mountaineers scored a 33-20 win against the Flames thanks to an offensive outburst from new quarterback Jarret Brown. Brown, who took over for star performer Pat White, completed 19-of-26 passes for 243 while rushing for 69 yards and a touchdown in just nine carries. Aiding Brown in the destruction of Liberty's defense was halfback Noel Devine. Devine had 17 carries for 112 yards in a touchdown. The Flames produced 299 against West Virginia's defense after a solid effort from quarterback Tommy Beecher. However, the team could not overcome both the talent gap and the nine penalites they committed. getting by Appalachian State 29-24 at Dowdy-Ficklin Stadium in Greenville. The Pirates were not overly impressive in their season debut as they managed just 320 yards against an FCS school (granted a top notch one, but still a class below). They also looked sloppy on occasion, committing nine penalites and turning the ball over twice.
