Kansas vs UTEP College Football Picks, College Football Odds & College Football Predictions: The No. 24 Kansas Jayhawks are in El Paso, Texas tonight to take on the UTEP Miners. Kansas is coming off an easy 49-3 season opening win while the Miners are 0-1 after falling 17-23 at home to the Buffalo Bulls. Kansas coasted to a trouble-free victory last Saturday in Lawrence, running roughshod over FCS school Northern Colorado. The Jayhawks, which are looking for their first Big 12 North title this season, had 25 first downs and 547 yards of offense against the Bears defense. Head Coach Mark Mangino exploited Northern Colorado's pass preventing formation, electing to run the ball 47 times for 328 yards (7 yards per carry).

Running back Jake Sharp was the chief beneficiary of the Bears strategy, rushing 21 times for 123 yards and a touchdown. Quarterback Todd Reesing, who threw for over 200 yards and two touchdowns, also factored into the rushing attack with 13 carries for 79 yards and two scores.

The Miners did not fare as well in their season debut in El Paso, losing as a home favorite to the Bulls. The Miners had more yards, more third down conversions, and they possessed the ball longer, but they could not overcome their own mistakes. Mike Price's club did not turn the ball over; however, they piled up 12 penalties for 101 yards.

Quaterback Trevor Vittatoe and running back Donald Buckram did perform well in the loss. Vittatoe completed 27-of-45 passes for 233 yards while Buckram had 14 carries for a total of 108 yards.

Price might have a difficult job getting the Miner's up for the Jayhawks after falling flat in last weekend's chance to avenge a 2008 17-42 loss at Buffalo. He can be certain, though, that Kansas will not be looking past his club as Mangino's troops have a home game against Duke next weekend.
