College Football Spreads 2012 Week 3

by Matt Foust on Wednesday, September 12th, 2012

usc barkleyCollege Football Spreads 2012 Week 3 will see the nation’s No. 2 ranked team, USC, face its biggest test yet as it meets Pac-12 rival Stanford. Saturday’s showdown between the Trojans and Cardinal is scheduled to kickoff at 7:30pm ET at Stanford Stadium in Palo Alto; it will be broadcast live on FOX. The latest College Football Spreads have USC listed as a -9 against the spread road favorite in its bid to avenge last year’s triple overtime loss to Stanford.

USC Trojans vs Stanford Cardinal (+9): When these two teams met last year much was on the line for an undefeated Cardinal team, but the red hot Trojans, who were ineligible for post-season play, nearly spoiled Stanford’s BCS party by forcing triple overtime. The roles are somewhat reversed this time around with USC hoping to keep its No. 2 ranking in the AP Poll. Stanford no longer featured Andrew Luck under center, but the Cardinal, its opening weekend performance against San Jose State aside, is still a deep, experienced football team. That may not be enough on Saturday, though. The Trojans traveled all the way to New York last weekend and turned in an uninspired defensive effort against Syracuse, allowing the Orange to easily cover the 26 point spread. However, USC won the game 42-29, despite its ‘going through the motions’ performance, as Matt Barkley tossed six touchdown passes. This weekend should feature a more motivated group of Trojans with Stanford representing, arguably, USC’s second or third biggest College Football Predictions opponent of the season.
