The Turner Gill era got off to an ugly start in Lawrence with the Jayhawks falling 6-3 to FCS school North Dakota State. 
Kansas offense was downright offensive against the Bison, gaining just 293 total yards while committing three turnovers. Gill, however, made a quarterback change last week heading into the Jayhawks meeting with defending ACC champion Georgia Tech and the switch paid big dividends.
Gill's ability to rally the troops after a horrific loss also proved effective as Kansas prevailed 28-25 over the Yellow Jackets. Georgia Tech ran the ball well, as expected, but the Jayhawks held tough on third and fourth down, limiting Paul Johnson's squad to 4-of-13 and 1-of-4 respectively.
Kansas' offense performed far better with Jeff Webb under center as he completed 18-of-29 passes for 179 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception.
Southern Miss also rebounded from a season opening loss (South Carolina 41-13), beating Prairie View A&M 34-7 in Hattiesburg last weekend. The Golden Eagles put up 464 total yards and 25 first downs against the Panthers thanks to a tremendous effort on the ground. Southern Miss rushed for 253 total yards and three touchdowns in 47 carries. Redshirt freshman Kendrick Hardy led the ground oriented attack with 86 yards.
The Golden Eagles defense held Prairie View to 211 total yards and 14 first downs after watching Steve Spurrier's Gamecocks rack up 449 yards and 25 first downs.
These two teams met last year in Lawrence with the Jayahwks scoring a 35-28 victory. Kansas was a far different team last season, though, not only the players on the field, but also the coach on the sideline.
2010 College Football Predictions Betting Trend: Kansas is 1-9 straight up in its last 10 games as road underdog with a spread between 4 and 7.5. Southern Miss is 8-2 straight up in its last 10 games as home favorite with a total between 47.5 and 51.
