Texas vs Texas Tech 2010 College Football Predictions, 2010 College Football Picks & 2010 College Football Odds: Big 12 rivals Texas and Texas Tech open their respective conference seasons tomorrow evening with a showdown in Lubbock. The game is set to get underway at 8:00pm ET at Jones AT&T Stadium; it will be broadcast live on ABC. 2010 College Football Predictions, Picks & Odds at BetUS.com have the Longhorns listed as a -3 against the spread road favorite and the game total set at 50.5.
Texas comes into this game with a 2-0 record, but there are slight rumblings among the Longhorn faithful as the team
failed to top 34 points in beating Rice and Wyoming. That would seem to be nitpicking, but considering Texas has averaged 35 or more points in each of the last six seasons, fans have come to expect offensive greatness week in and week out.
The Longhorns posted 389 yards and 20 first downs last week against the Cowboys as Garrett Gilbert completed 22-of-35 passes for 222 yards and one touchdown. The rushing attack, which Head Coach Mack Brown has placed a renewed emphasis on this season, produced 167 yards in 29 carries for a 5.8 yards per carry average.
Texas' defense held Wyoming to 13 first downs and 257 yards in the victory while holding Dave Christensen's squad to 1.9 yards per carry.
Texas Tech followed up its 35-27 win over SMU with a 52-17 pasting of New Mexico in Albuquerque. The Red Raiders offense looked Mike Leach-like, racking up 462 yards in just over 26 minutes. Quarterback Taylor Potts led the charge with a 22-of-34, 293 yard, three touchdown performance.
New Mexico, surprisingly, almost equalled Tech's production, finishing the game with 23 first downs and 433 yards of its own. However, the Lobos squandered their scoring opportunities by turning the ball over three times and committing 16 penalties for a total of 145 yards.
Texas has controlled this series of late, winning eight of the last 10 games; however, Texas Tech has won two of the last four in Lubbock, including 2008's dramatic 39-33 victory.
2010 College Football Predictions Betting Trend: The Over is 6-1 in the last seven games between these two conference rivals in Lubbock. The Over is 5-0 over the last five years when Texas Tech played at home coming off back-to-back straight up wins.
