The Arizona Wildcats and the UCLA Bruins are both coming off tough losses, the good news is that one of them will have a chance to recover this Saturday when they square off in Los Angeles. UCLA had a brilliant win to open the season against Tennessee as a big home underdog. Head Coach Rick Neuheisel could not have been more pleased with the effort of his defense in that game as they overcame four first half interceptions by quarterback Kevin Craft. However, the momentum from that dramatic win did not survive the team's bye week. Last week the Bruins looked dreadful versus a good BYU team, losing 59-0.
The Wildcats started out the season in impressive fashion, beating Idaho 70-0 and Toledo 41-16. Last weekend they stumbled to what had been a winless New Mexico squad. Statistically Arizona bested the Lobos by 53 yards despite possessing the ball almost six minutes fewer than New Mexico. However, Mike Stoops' team was unable to keep control of the ball, turning it over five times (three fumbles, two interceptions).
UCLA will need to discover a running game in order to keep the Wildcats from pressuring Kevin Craft into the same mistakes he made against Tennessee. Through two games the Bruins are averaging just 19 yards per game on the ground.
