The Cardinals opened the season with a win, beating FCS school Louisville vs Kentucky College Football Predictions, Odds & PicksIndiana State 30-10 on September 5th at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium. Head Coach Steve Kragthorpe, who entered the season on the hot seat, watched his team pile up 419 yards and average 5.9 yards per carry. However, all was not well as new quarterback Justin Burke completed 17-of-31 passes for 223 yards and two interceptions and the Cardinals racked up 14 penalties for 128 yards.

Louisville's defense did what they should have done against the Sycamores, holding them to just 101 yards and seven first downs. Indiana State averaged 0.6 yards per carry and also had four turnovers.

The Wildcats had a near flawless performance in their season opener, also on the 5th, pounding Miami, Ohio 42-0 in Cincinnati. Kentucky dominated the game in all facets as they racked up 29 first downs and 488 yards while limiting the RedHawks to 10 and 188 respectively.

Quarterback Mike Hartline completed 18-of-27 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns in the win. Running back duo Derrick Locke and Moncell Allen also showed well, combining for 16 carries for 118 yards and two touchdowns.

Rich Brooks will have make sure his squad avoids looking past the Cardinals tomorrow with a home game against Florida coming up on the 19th of September. That statement in and of itself is testament as to how far the Cardinals have fallen under Kragthorpe.

Consider that Louisville has been favored the last five times these two schools have got together. However, since Kragthorpe's arrival in 2007 the Wildcats have won both meetings, including a 27-2 beat down last year as a +3 dog.
