Florida vs Tennessee 2010 College Football Predictions

by Reno Gold on Saturday, September 18th, 2010

Florida vs Tennessee 2010 College Football Predictions: In college football, the third Saturday in September is synonymous with one thing, the Florida vs. Tennessee football game. Often one of the most anticipated games in the SEC East, this 2010 version is coming in under the radar. Tennessee was mashed in Week 2 by Oregon while Florida has its own set of issues. The Gators are 2-0 with wins over Miami-Ohio and South Florida but the team doesn't have its dominating flair in past years. Also, the team is wracked with discipline problems that's raising eyebrows around the league. Today's game kicks off at 3:30 pm ET and will be televised on CBS (HD).

Florida vs Tennessee 2010 College Football PredictionsFlorida's problems are mild compared to the Vols. Tennnessee players have their third head coach in as many years. A result of that is the decimation of talent in a once proud program. Derek Dooley, son of coaching legend Vince Dooley, is now tasked with rebuilding the team.

The Gators are heading to Knoxville as -13 1/2 chalk favorites, according to the early Saturday betting line at BetOnline.com with a posted total (Over/Under) of 45 1/2 points.

Florida will play its third game with John Brantley at quarterback. He has gone 117 straight pass attempts without an interception. Jeff Demps has led the Gators in rushing in both games this season. After running for 98 versus Miami(Oh), including a career-long 72 yard scoring run, Demps rushed for a personal-best72 yard scoring run. Demps rushed for a personal best 139 yards on 11 carries against USF for an average of 12.6 yards per carry. Deonte Thompson set career highs with six receptions and 83 yards vs. USF.

Junior tailback Tauren Poole has certainly made the most of his opportunity to start for the Vols. Poole leads the SEC with 136 rushing yards per game following his career best 162 yards against Oregon. Poole rushed for 111 yards in the first quarter against the Ducks. Matt Simms made his debut at quarterback against UT Martin, completing 14 of 24 passes for 181 yards and 1 touchdown. He followed up that performance by completing 15 passes for 151 yards and an interception against Oregon. Zach Rogers started for the first time last week against Oregon. He had a career-high three catches and led the receivers with 45 yards.

Last week I blew a call taking the Vols at home plus the points. Well, I'm doing it again and going with Tennessee +13 1/2. They will play their best against the Gators. Also, this is a young Florida team in a hostile environment.
