Tennessee vs Florida College Football Picks, College Football Odds & College Football Predictions: The Tennessee Volunteers and the Florida Gators will final settle their off-season bickering with a meeting at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium this afternoon (3:30pm ET CBS). Tennessee's new Head Coach, Lane Kiffin, ingnited a firestorm when he took over in Knoxville, accusing Gators coach Urban Meyer of cheating and promising to sing "Rocky Top" all night long after beating Floirda. College Football Picks at Sportsbetting.com are expecting Kiffin to eat a little crow today as the online bookmaker has the Gators listed as a -30 against the spread favorite.
The Volunteers certainly did not look like a team that should be
doing any trash talking given their performance against UCLA last weekend. Tennessee followed up their beat down of Western Kentucky with a 19-15 home loss to the Bruins. Kiffin's squad had just 208 yards and converted only four third downs in the loss.
Quarterback Jonathan Crompton had an awful outing, completing 13-of-26 passes for 93 yards and three interceptions. Crompton took a great deal of heat last year and it got turned up again this week after his showing on Saturday. Kiffin, however, defended his beleaguered signal caller and indicated he has confidence in the senior to get things turned around.
"Make sure you understand, there ain't a guy in the country trying harder than him," Kiffin said. "That's preparing harder or doing more to try and do things right. He's going to do well for us."
Crompton will need to do well if the Vols are to stand a chance this afternoon. His coach likely did the team no favors by stirring up the nation's top ranked squad. Kiffin, however, downplayed the notion that his comments will serve as some sort of catalyst for the Gators to perform with more than their typical zeal.
"You've got a big-time rivalry," Kiffin said. "Florida has dominated, obviously, lately with four in a row…there's been motivation over there, and I don't think I motivated them."
Florida guard James Wilson disagreed with Kiffin's stance, suggesting that the coach's talking has not gone unnoticed or been disregarded.
"That's something you don't forget," Wilson said. "That's good motivation for us. It's going to be wild."
The Gators come into the much hyped meeting with a 2-0 record after beating the Troy Trojans 56-6 last weekend. Florida amassed 663 yards and 32 first downs in the drubbing. Quarterback Tim Tebow led the way, completing 15-of-24 passes for 237 and four touchdowns while rushing for 71 yards and a score.
