2010 College Football Predictions Week 4: I'm going to use this space to talk about some Week-4 college football matchups, their betting odds, and what I think might happen, but stopping short of going on record with a pick.
No. 17 ranked Miami(Fl) and Pittsburg get the week started on Thursday night (Sept. 23) up in Pennsylvania. Both the Hurricanes and Panthers suffered a loss to a ranked team and have defeated a cup-cake in the first two weeks of the 2010 season. After both teams had an open date in Week-3, they get to play each other this week. I find it interesting that Pitt (ranked 15th at the time), after losing to Utah on the road to open the season has fallen from the rankings all together. Miami, who began the season ranked 13th, has lost to No.2 Ohio State, but is still ranked. It's all about perception and pundits must feel that Miami's program is ahead of Pittsburgh's. Sportsbook.com lists the Panthers as +3-point home underdogs to the 'Canes. I predict a back and forth game with lots of points scored. Check in to Point-Spreads.com on Thursday and I will issue a free game pick.
What a game it should between No. 1 ranked Alabama and 10 Arkansas Saturday afternoon on CBS. The Crimson Tide will receive their first big challenge of the year within the SEC with the Razorbacks. It will also be Alabama's first SEC road test where every venue is difficult. For Alabama to win the game, they will have to figure out how to stop Arkansas quarterback Ryan Mallett and his crew of skilled receivers. On the other hand, Arkansas' defense will need to bow its back once more to stop a well balanced Tide offense led by last years Heisman winner, Mark Ingram. Sportsbook.com currently has Alabama favored by-7. I predict the winner will be the team that makes the fewest mistakes.
Nobody will be cheering for the Razorbacks more on Saturday than the Boise State Broncos' players and fans. There should be plenty of energy in Boise, Idaho Saturday night (8:05 pm ET, ABC) when the No. 3 Broncos play the No. 24 Beavers of Oregon State. If Arkansas can find a way to knock off Alabama then Boise State could move into the top-2 providing they can pull off a win over the Beavers. Beating Oregon State isn't something Boise State is expected to have any problem with, as they are listed as 17-chalk favorites on the Sportsbook board.
Auburn was able to fight off a stiff test from a challenger from the ACC, Clemson, in Week-3 and can expect another dog fight when the No. 12 South Carolina Gamecocks travel to the Alabama plaines for a game on Saturday with No. 17 Auburn Pundits are saying this is the year the Gamecocks can win the SEC East. If that is true, then Carolina needs to win here. Auburn is lined at Sportsbook.com as 2 1/2-chalk favorites.
