Pitt's defense bounced back from a sub-par effort in the team's 54-27 win over Buffalo, holding Navy to 218 total yards. Most impressive, though, was the fact that the Middies vaunted rushing attack amassed just 129 yards and averaged 2.8 yards per carry.

North Carolina State beat FCS school Gardner-Webb 45-14 last Saturday to bring their record to 2-1. The Wolfpack offense, which looked anemic in the season opener against South Carolina, took advantage of the lesser competition and churned out 477 yards. Quarterback Russell Wilson threw four touchdowns passes for the second consecutive week in the win. He also completed 26 of his 36 pass attempts for 345 yards. Wilson, who won first team ACC honors last year, set an NCAA record in the victory for the most pass attempts (325) without an interception.

The Wolfpack defense held the Runnin' Bulldogs to 13 first downs and 213 yards. Gardner-Webb converted just one of 13 third down opportunities.

North Carolina State will need to shore up their pass protection this weekend against Pitt. Wilson has been sacked 10 times in three games and the Panthers pass rush has generated 16 sacks this season (5.3 per game).
