TCU vs SMU College Football Predictions: TCU vs. SMU 2010 College Football Picks: It's been a long time since the Iron-Skillet Bowl, the annual football game between TCU (MWC) and SMU (C-USA), was a big deal around the Dallas-Fort Worth golden triangle. But with TCU ranked number 4 in the latest AP College Football Poll, and SMU's program on the upswing, under coach June Jones, this game has become relevant. Kickoff for this ESPN (HD) televised game is set for 8 pm ET.

TCU vs SMU College Football PredictionsTCU's program is still considered significantly ahead of SMU's, but the Pony's are making some strides under Jones. However, oddsmakers at super-sportsbook BetUS.com list SMU as +17 1/2 point home underdogs in this traditional rivalry game with the Horned Frogs. The OVER/UNDER total is posted at 54 1/2.

TCU defeated SMU, 39-14, last season in Fort Worth. Under head coach Gary Patterson, the Horned Frogs are 7-1 against the Mustangs.  SMU owns a 22-18-2 advantage over the Horned Frogs in Dallas.  As a member of the Mountain West, the Horned Frogs are 4-1 against C-USA opponents.

The man leading the potent TCU offense is quarterback Andy Dalton. The senior TCU signal caller is second on the Horned Frogs' career TD passes list with 48. Dalton led TCU to  touchdowns on its first five posessions in last Saturday's 45-10 victory over Baylor.

Quarterback Kyle Padron is the leader of the SMU offense. After three games he has already thrown for 624 yards and four touchdowns. Padron's leading receiver is Darius Johnson, who after three games has pulled in 15 receptions for 130 yards (8.7 average per rec.) for three touchdowns.

TCU won its last outing, a 45-10 result against Baylor on September 18. TCU covered in that game as a 21 1/2-point favorite, while the 55 combined points took the game UNDER the total.

Southern Methodist won its last outing, a 35-21 result against Washington State on September 18. Southern Methodist failed to cover in that game as a 23 1/2-point favorite, while the 56 combined points took the game OVER the total.

The Pick: TCU will not have any problem winning the game SU, however; will they cover a large spread in a hostile road environment, is another matter. I see both SMU and TCU scoring some points that should drive the total pretty high. I'm surprised the total is as low as 54 1/2. Look for this game to go OVER the posted 54 1/2 total.
