2011 College Football Odds Week 5: Not a whole lot of shuffling took place in the top 25 this week, but LSU did manage to find its way to the No. 1 spot after beating West Virginia 47-21 in Morgantown. The Tigers made their move despite a 10 point win from previous No. 1 Oklahoma over Missouri in Norman. This week could lead to a massive rearrangement as a number of top teams clash on the gridiron, including South Florida/Pittsburgh, Alabama/Florida, Texas A&M/Arkansas, Baylor/Kansas State, Clemson/Virginia Tech, and Nebraska/Wisconsin.
No. 8 Nebraska Cornhuskers vs No. 7 Wisconsin Badgers (-9.5): No. 8 Nebraska heads to Madison this week for its first ever
conference game as a member of the Big Ten. The odds makers are not anticipating a warm welcome for Taylor Martinez and company as the Badgers are giving them 9.5 points. The Huskers come into this weekend's game with a 4-0 record, but they have looked shaky at times, which explains why they have covered the number just one time this season. What probably has the books siding with Wisconsin so heavily, though, has been Nebraska's inability to stop the run. The Black Shirts rank 56th in the nation in rush yards per game allowed (133.25) and they will be charged with slowing an attack that averages 245.5 yards per game on the ground. Conversely, the Badgers defense, which is giving up just 88.8 rush yards per game, looks better prepared to deal with Nebraska's high powered ground attack (272.5 yards per game).
No. 14 Texas A&M Aggies vs No. 18 Arkansas Razorbacks (+3): These two former Southwest Conference rivals meet for a third consecutive season and they both come in off difficult conference losses. A&M fell 30-29 to Oklahoma State as a home favorite while the Razorbacks got roughed up 38-14 by Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Despite Arkansas' shoddy performance, the line here does not make a great deal of sense. The Razorbacks dominated the Aggies 47-19 in a 2009 meeting at Dallas Cowboys Stadium and they defeated A&M 24-17 there last year. Granted, Ryan Mallett is gone, but Tyler Wilson certainly has enough ability to exploit some of the defensive weaknesses Oklahoma State exposed on Saturday.
