College Football Picks Week 5: College football fans, and bettors, are always treated to a weekly Thursday and Friday night sampling of their favorite sport. However, the NCAA has upped the ante in week 5, bringing football freaks a Wednesday night game as well as additional games on both Thursday and Friday night. The action gets started tomorrow evening with the Hawaii Warriors squaring off against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs at Joe Aillet Stadium in Ruston, Louisiana. Visit BetUS.com today to get the latest odds on this WAC special and all the College Football Picks Week 5.
Hawaii vs Louisiana Tech (-3.5): Hawaii, which enters this conference game at 2-1, will be competing in its third consecutive
away game. The Warriors will not only be road weary, they will also be attempting to bounce back from their first loss of the season, a heatbreaking 34-33 defeat at UNLV. The Bulldogs, meanwhile, are 1-2 after opening the year with road losses at Auburn and at Navy. They thumped Nicholls State 48-13 last weekend to get their first win. Tomorrow's meeting between these two WAC schools will mark the first conference game for both squads. Kickoff is set for 8:00pm ET on ESPN2.
Colorado vs West Virginia (-17): Many expected the Buffs to finally turn the corner in this, Head Coach Dan Hawkins fourth year with the program. There has been no turning thus far, but a win over West Virginia would even Colorado's record at 2-2 and certainly provide a boost heading into the conference schedule, which begins next weekend with a trip to Austin, Texas. The Buffaloes are coming off their first win of the season, a 24-0 beating of Wyoming in Boulder. The Mountaineers enter this contest at 2-1 after losing 41-30 at Auburn on September 19th. West Virginia has featured more of a passing game this season with Pat White gone, but they have maintained a good balance. They most certainly will look to keep an evenhanded attack this week against a Buffaloes squad that is giving up 410 yards per game (183 rush, 227 pass).
Colorado got the better of the Mountaineers in last year's meeting between these two teams, winning 17-14 at Folsum Field. West Virginia racked up 311 rush yards in the loss, but managed just 43 through the air.
This game is set to get underway at 7:30pm ET in Morgantown, WV (ESPN).
Pittsburgh vs Louisville (+6.5): The Cardinals have been back peddling ever since Steve Kragthrope took over the program three years ago. That has continued this season as Louisville is currently 1-2 entering Friday night's Big East tilt with the Panthers. The latest loss was an ugly 14-30 beating at Utah. However, if Kragthorpe can get by Pitt, the season suddenly looks a little different. And make no mistake, this team is in dire need of a victory considering they have a tough Southern Miss squad up next followed by away games at UConn and at Cincinnati.
Pittsburgh comes into their conference opener with a 3-1 record. The Panthers lost 31-38 last week to North Carolina State in Raleigh. Dave Wannstedt's team got dominated statistically but somehow had a 31-17 lead late in the third quarter. The Wolfpack scored 21 unanswered points to win the game.
This Friday night special kicks off at 8:00pm ET at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in Louisville, Kentucky (ESPN).
