Week 5 College Football Picks 2012

baylor art brilesWeek 5 College Football Picks 2012 features only two games between top 25 squads, and since we already tackled Ohio State versus Michigan State a few days ago, it is time to take a look at No. 25 Baylor vs. No. 9 West Virginia. Today’s meeting between the Bears and Mountaineers is scheduled to get underway at 12:00pm ET at Mountaineer Field in Morgantown; it will be broadcast live on the FX Network. The latest College Football Spreads have West Virginia listed as a -11 against the spread home favorite and the game total set at an eye popping 83 points.

No. 25 Baylor Bears vs No. 9 West Virginia Mountaineers (-11): This should be one of the weekend’s more exciting College Football Picks contests as both of these Big 12 schools feature prolific offenses and suspect defenses. Today’s game also represents West Virginia’s first conference tilt as a member of the Big 12. The Bears and Mountaineers presently rank fifth and 10th in the FBS in points per game at 51.3 and 47.3, respectively, and they have two of the top rated quarterbacks in the nation. West Virginia’s Geno Smith, the current favorite to win the Heisman Trophy at +175 odds, leads the country in touchdown passes (12 to zero interceptions) and completion percentage (81.4). Baylor’s Nick Florence has been less impressive, but still incredibly good, throwing for 11 touchdown passes and an average of 334.7 yards per game. The Mountaineers posted 69 points in their season opening win over Marshall, but they seemingly let off the gas in beating James Madison (42-12) and Maryland (31-21). There will be no letting up today, though. West Virginia will want to make a statement in its first conference game and Baylor may not afford it the opportunity to cruise to the finish line. The Bears have more than enough offensive firepower to keep this thing both interesting and exciting. Yes, the total is almost laughably high, but keep in mind it is that high for a reason.
