Now that the first month of college football is behind us, we should be getting better with our picks. That's always been my philosophy; learn about what's out there in September and cash-in starting in October. So, with College Football Picks Week 5 staring at us, let's go break the books.

College Football Week 5 PicksCollege football picks week 5 gets an early start on Wednesday (Sept. 30) when the Hawaii Warriors travel to play the Louisana Tech Bulldogs down in Ruston, Louisiana. Online sportsbook BetUS.com lists the Bulldogs as 4 1/2-chalk home underdogs while the total is OFF the board.

Take Hawaii and the points in this game. Louisiana Tech is 1-6 versus the Warriors and is 1-2 at Ruston.

On Thursday (Oct. 1) The Buffaloes of Colorado travel to BIG EAST country to play the West Virginia Mountaineers at Morgantown. To put it plainly, Colorado has been terrible in September going 1-2 against questionable competition, losing at home to Colorado State and on the road to MAC member Toledo - both non-bcs schools. Their one win came against Wyoming at Boulder where the team seemed to pull it together with a 24-0 win. The Mountaineers are currently 2-1 with the lone loss last week at Auburn. Their two wins came against FCS Liberty and non-BCS East Carolina.

Colorado is getting +17 on the BetUS board. While the Buffs haven't been stellar, neither have the Mounties. Take the points and Colorado in this one.

On Friday we have a double betting opportunity with Pitt playing at Louisville in a BIG EAST battle and Utah State travelling to Provo to play BYU. Louisville is getting +6 1/2 at home to the Panthers while BYU is giving -24 as a home favorite. We like both dogs to cover ATS in these games.

College football picks week 5 is loaded with  Saturday action. Check out my  Saturday picks board.

Alabama -16 1/2 at Kentucky - will the Cats score? Roll Tide -16 1/2.

USF -7 at Syracuse - Take the the Bulls and -7.

Wisconsin +3 at Minnesota - a rivalry game and I like the dog - Badgers +3.

Clemson -13 1/2 at Maryland - Poor ole' Maryland - Take Clemson -13 1/2.

FSU -5 at Boston College - The game will be competitive but Noles cover -5.

Ole Miss -8 1/2 at Vanderbilt - Always a tough game - I like Vandy +8 1/2.

Cincinnati -28 1/2 at Miami (Ohio) - The Red Hawks are 0-4 with a 30 1/2-point losing average. Bearcats win big.

Washington at +13 @ Notre Dame. Huskies play well enough to cover.

Georgia -3 vs. LSU - I like the Dogs - as in Georgia Bulldogs -3.

Mississippi State +4 1/2 vs. Georgia Tech - State covers as a home dog.

Penn State -7 at Illinois - Take the Nittany Lions and give the points.

Michigan +2 at Michigan State - Maize and Blue all the way +2.

Arkansas PK vs. Texas A&M - WooPigSooie - Hogs whallop the Aggies just like the old days.

SMU +28 at TCU - Ponies cover but +28 still lose.
