Southern Mississippi at UAB College Football Picks: The Southern Miss Golden Eagles college football team has started its season in stellar fashion going 3-1 with wins over Alcorn State, Central Florida and ACC member Virginia with the only  loss a 28-35 thriller at No. 18 (AP)Kansas in week 4. On Thursday (Oct. 1), the Golden Eagles travel to play C-USA rival University of Alabama at Birmingham Blazers (UAB) at Legion Field in Birmingham, Ala.

UAB is currently 1-4 (1-1, C-USA) with its only win coming against the Rice Owls (44-24) in week 1. Since that time, the Blazers have suffered three straight losses, at home (33-35) to SMU and on the road (14-27) at Troy (week 3) and (19-56) at Texas A&M (week 4).

Under normal circumstances, it is expected the Golden Eagles would be installed as a  favorites in this game - however; the team has several players who have health concerns going into the UAB contest, including running backs Damion Fletcher and Tory Harrison, as well as receivers DeAndre Brown and Johdrick Morris. Some or all of these players will not play Thursday night.

College football picks oddsmakers at SPORTSBETTING.com list USM as 10-chalk favorites versus UAB with a 59 total. 

College football picks early betting trends show gamblers laying heavy on USM. A lopsided 86% are betting USM ATS while 88% are betting the Eagles to win SU on the moneyline. The majority of gamblers (72%) like the posted total to fall UNDER 59.

In three listed games played this year, USM is only 1-2 ATS while the total has gone OVER in 2-of-3. UAB has played four board listed games but hasn't fared well for backers covering 1-of-4 ATS. The OVER has cashed for backers in 3-of-4 board listed games UAB played.

College Football Picks: If you are hot on USM to blow out UAB you better think again. They have too many injuries in key positions to have much confidence in covering a double-digit chalk. I like UAB to cover +10 at home.
