College Football Betting Odds: Northern Illinois vs Tennesse

by Matt Foust on Thursday, October 2nd, 2008

The Tennessee Volunteers are off to a rough start sitting at just 1-3. No doubt Volunteer fans are feeling a little anxious about their team's play through four games. They will be expecting a big win over this weekend's opponent, the Northern Illinois Huskies. Odds makers at Justbet.com are expecting the same too, as they have Phil Fulmer's squad as a -15.5 home favorite.College Football Betting Odds: Northern Illinois vs Tennesse

Tennessee got the 2008 season started on a bad note with a give-away game versus UCLA in Los Angeles. They followed that loss up with a win over UAB, but have since dropped two in a row to conference foes Florida and Auburn.

Fulmer, perhaps in a move of desperation, left the quarterback position open to competition this week. Junior Jonathan Crompton has thrown just two touchdown passes this season and his 95.8 passer rating is less than exemplary.

Northern Illinois had a horrendous 2007 season, going 2-10. However, they have shown dramatic improvement  this year, matching last year's win total in four games and losing their other two contests by a combined seven points.

The Huskies will need to move the ball on the ground to have a chance this weekend against the Vols. Thus far that has not been an issue as Northern Illinois is averaging 183.5 yards per game rushing. But, despite Tennessee's record, they still have solid defense in place and they have held teams to just 258 total yards per game.

College Football Betting Trends: Northern Illinois is 1-9 straight up in their last 10 games as a road underdog.
