Texas A&M is off to a strong start in Mike Sherman's second season on the sidelines, sitting at 3-0 and poised to rebound
from a dismal 4-8 2008 campaign. The Aggies have wins over New Mexico, Utah State, and UAB, which is not exactly murderers row, but they have won those games by an average of 26.6 points. The latest A&M victim was the Blazers of UAB, which fell 56-19 at Kyle Field in College Station. Sherman's squad racked up 544 yards and 30 first downs in the shellacking.
Quarterback Jerrod Johnson had a tremendous game, completing 23-of-29 passes for 290 yards and three touchdowns and rushing the ball 14 times for 61 yards and three scores. Johnson has thrown for 961 yards through three games and completed 67.6-percent of his passes. He has nine passing touchdowns and no interceptions. The junior signal caller also has 196 rush yards and four rushing scores.
The Razorbacks saw their record fall to 1-2 last weekend as they dropped their second straight SEC game. Arkansas proved no match for the third ranked Crimson Tide, losing 35-7 in Tuscaloosa. The Hogs managed just 254 yards and two third down conversions against Alabama's wrecking crew defense. Quartebrack Ryan Mallet, who threw five touchdown passes in the team's loss to Georgia, hit on 12 of his 35 pass attempts for 160 yards, a touchdown, and an interception. The pick was just his first of the season.
The Razorback rushing attack, which is averaging a meager 94.7 yards per game, did little to help Mallet, producing 63 yards at 2.4 yards per carry.
The Crimson Tide offense rolled up 425 yards on a defense that is giving up an average of 386.7 per contest and it held the ball for 33:36.
