Texas Tech racked up their usual yardage against Houston's defense (484), but the Cougars forced two fumbles, which proved to be instrumental in the narrow win.
UTEP is probably still licking its wounds from the epic beating they received last Saturday in Austin, Texas. The No. 2 Longhorns took no pity on their in-state brethren, pounding the Miners 64-7. The humiliating loss dropped UTEP's record to 1-3.
Texas had its way, obviously, with Mike Price's defense, amassing 32 first downs and 639 yards in 34:52. The Longhorns passing attack produced 335 yards and the run balanced it out with a total of 304 (7.2 yards per carry).
The Miners offense was almost as dreadful as their defense, posting just seven first downs, one third down conversion, and 53 total yards. Quarterback Trevor Vittatoe completed just 7-of-21 passes for 38 yards and he also tossed four interceptions.
