College Football Point Spreads 2011 Week 6: This past weekend featured a number of big games, but a majority of the most anticipated matchups turned out to be blowouts (Alabama/Florida, Clemson/Virginia Tech, Nebraska/Wisconsin). Most of this Saturday's top 25 matchups look lopsided on paper, but there are a few games with promise, including rivalry tilts between Oklahoma and Texas and Florida and LSU.
Oklahoma Sooners vs Texas Longhorns (+9): Oklahoma owned this rivalry from 2000 to 2004, winning five straight games
by an average of 27 points per game. Texas started hitting back in 2005, though, beating the Sooners 45-12, and it has won four of the last six. The Longhorns recent dominance took a blow last season when OU won 28-20 on the strength of a 236 yard, two touchdown performance from quarterback Landry Jones. Both teams have looked good thus far, coming into Saturday's game with 4-0 records. The Sooners have defeated Tulsa, Florida State, Missouri, and Ball State while the Longhorns have topped Rice, BYU, UCLA, and Iowa State. It would appear Texas has recovered from last year's abysmal 5-7 finish, but are the Longhorns ready to jump back into the top 10? Probably not.
Florida Gators vs LSU (NA): Florida showed on Saturday that it is not quite ready to reclaim its spot among the SEC's elite, losing to the Crimson Tide 38-10 at the Swamp. The Gators also lost their starting quarterback John Brantley against Alabama and the senior is not expected to suit up against LSU on Saturday. This game is more about the Tigers, though. LSU won their five games by an average of 25.2 points per game and Florida provides the team another opportunity to make a statement to the pollsters. And the importance of impressions cannot be underestimated, just ask Oklahoma. The Sooners beat a good Missouri team 38-28 and got leap frogged by LSU two Saturdays ago and they thrashed Ball State 62-6 this weekend and saw Alabama move past them into the No. 2 spot.
