Troy vs. Middle Tennessee College Football Picks: The Sun Belt Conference's two best teams, Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders and the Troy University Trojans will battle for league supremecy in a rare Tuesday night college football game at MTSU's Floyd Stadium in Murfreesboro, Tenn. (7 pm ET) and televised nationally on ESPN2.
The Blue Raiders are listed as 3-chalk home favorites versus the Trojans with a 63 total. Troy backers are getting +135 moneyline odds for a SU win as road underdogs while MTSU is giving -155 odds.
In four games this season without Dasher, the Blue Raiders are 2-2 SU and 1-2 ATS with the game with Austin Peay (FCS) a non-lined game. MTSU is 0-2 SU and 1-2 ATS versus other teams from the Football Bowl Subdivision and 0-2 versus FBS teams outside of the Sun Belt.
Dasher, who has not taken a snap since his record-setting appearance in the New Orleans Bowl last December, is back at his old job of directing the high-powered Blue Raider offense. Last season, Dasher became only the fourth player in NCAA history to pass for more than 2,500 yards and rush for at least 1,000 yards
Troy is 2-2 SU but is 1-3 ATS in their four games played. The Trojans opened the season with a 30-27 SU win versus Bowling Green but did not cover the betting spread as a 14-chalk favorite. The Trojans covered the spread the next week losing 38-41 as a +13.5 point underdog to Oklahoma State on the road. Troy lost in Week-3 to Alabama-Birmingham 33-34, failing to cover ATS as a 3.5-chalk favorite. Troy picked up a SU 35-28 win in Week-4 when hosting Arkansas State in their Sun Belt home opener. Troy failed to cover the spread as a 10.5-chalk favorite.
This will be the 18th time the two schools have met on the football field, with Middle Tennessee winning the first eight games and holding an 11-6 edge in the series. Troy has rebounded to take the last four games, including the last two in Murfreesboro.
Reno Gold's pick: Back in Week-1 I picked Middle Tennessee State to defeat Minnesota in its opener but had to back out after learning of Dashers suspension. This game would be a toss-up without Dasher but his presence for the Blue Raiders tips the scale. I like MTSU giving -3.
