Nebraska vs Kansas State 2010 College Football Predictions, 2010 College Football Picks & 2010 College Football Odds: The Nebraska Cornhuskers and Kansas State Wildcats kick off their conference seasons tomorrow night with a head-to-head battle at Bill Synder Family Stadium in Manhatta, Kansas. The stand alone game is scheduled to get underway at 7:30pm ET on ESPN. 2010 College Football Predictions, Picks & Odds at online bookmaker SBGglobal.com have the Cornhuskers listed as a -11.5 against the spread road favorite and the game total set at 51.5.
No. 7 Nebraska comes into this rivalry tilt with 4-0 record after scoring wins over Western Kentucky, Idaho, Washington, and
South Dakota State. Amazingly, the Jackrabbits of the Missouri Valley Conference gave Bo Pelini's troops their toughest test to date. Nebraska beat the FCS school 17-3 on September 25th in Lincoln after thrashing its first three opponents by an average of 31.7 points per game.
Freshman quarterback Taylor Martinez, whose 124 rushing yards per game ranks ninth in the nation, had his worst outing of the season against South Dakota State, turning the ball over three times (two interceptions, one lost fumble). He finished the game with 140 passing yards and 75 rush yards on 13 carries. The California native had a far more dynamic outing in the Huskers 56-21 trouncing of Washington, rushing for 137 yards and three touchdowns in just 19 carries.
Nebraska's Black Shirt defense, which ranked first in the nation a season ago in points per game allowed (10.4), has missed Ndamukong Suh; however, the team is still holding its opposition to just 12.8 points and 265 yards per contest.
Bill Synder's Wildcats also come into this Big 12 North showdown with a 4-0 record. Kansas State owns wins over UCLA, Missouri State, Iowa State, and Central Florida, all of them coming in Manhattan with the exception of the Cyclones game, which took place at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City.
Senior Carson Coffman has been an efficient passer for Coach Synder, producing a 147.61 quarterback rating through four games, but the Wildcats will not be mistaken for a passing team anytime soon. Daniel Thomas is the engine that drives Kansas State's offense as his numbers would suggest. The senior tailback, who rushed for 234 yards and two touchdowns in the Wildcats season opener against the Bruins, is averaging 157 rush yards per game and an impressive 5.9 yards per carry.
The Cornhuskers have won the last five in this series, but three of those victories came during Ron Prince's tenure at Kansas State. Synder's Wildcats won three straight against Nebraska from 2002 to 2004 before losing 27-25 in 2005 and 17-3 last year in Lincoln.
College Football Predictions Betting Trend: Nebraska is 8-2 straight up and 1-9 against the spread over the last five seasons playing as a -10 or more road favorite against a Big 12 opponent.
