Central Florida vs Marshall 2010 College Football Picks: Doc Holiday hasn't had had much luck in his first years at the helm of the Marshall University Thundering Herd football team. In the first five weeks of the 2010 college football season, the Herd has lost four of five games, with the only win coming against the Ohio Bobcats, a MAC team struggling in its own right. Marshall hosts Central Florida in a Wednesday night (7:00 Eastern, ESPN) Conference-USA battle. The Golden Knights, are currently 3-2 on the season overall and 1-0 in conference play. In their two losses UCF battled hard losing close games to North Carolina State and at Kansas State.
It was only a year ago when UCF needed a miracle to defeat Marshall, trailing by six with slightly more two-minutes left on the clock. Marshall had the ball and needed to run out the clock but defensive end Bruce Miller stripped the ball from Marshall quarterback Brian Anderson creating a turnover. The Golden Knights did not waste the opportunity as they quickly drove for a winning touchdown and PAT against a stunned Thundering Herd team.
Marshall and UCF have played every year since 2002 and the Knights lead the series 5-3. Marshall was a member of the Mid-American Conference from 1997-2004 and UCF joined the MAC as a football-only member in 2002 and remained in the league until the 2005 season when it also joined Conference USA along with Marshall. The Herd won the first three meetings, however UCF has now won five straight. Marshall is 2-2 at home against the Knights. UCF picked up a come-from-behind win in Orlando last season, 21-20.
Reno Gold's Game Pick: Picking against Marshall at home can be dangerous but I'll risk it with this game. The Thundering Herd and Golden Knights are going in opposite directions. I like the Golden Knights only giving -6.
