What has seemed predictable in making our college football picks in 2007 has almost always turned unpredictable in this crazy topsy-turvy year. Again, the No.1 ranked team in both the AP and USA Today/Coaches polls went down to defeat when the No. 17(AP) Kentucky Wildcats knocked off the No. 1 LSU Tigers in Commonwealth Stadium in Lexington before a national CBS television audience. In the past two weeks, both teams who have held down the top-spot in the polls have lost. The USC Trojans had fallen victim to Stanford in week 6.
Taking advantage of the LSU and Cal slip-ups, the Ohio State Buckeye were installed at the top of the seasons first BCS Poll followed by the University of South Florida Bulls at No.2.

With the loss, LSU backers took a big hit as 66 percent lost their money taking the Tigers as a -10 point road favorite and 78 percent went bust playing the Tigers on the money line. Those fading LSU and riding the Wildcats straight-up broke their bookie in a big way cashing the +320 money line juice.
The No. 2 ranked University of California (Berkeley) Bears failed to take advantage of the Tigers loss as they also lost SU and ATS (-14), going down at home 31-28 to the Oregon State Beavers. Cal quarterback Nate Longshore was unable to play due to a sprained ankle so the Bears were forced to go with backup Kevin Riley. Riley was inconsistent in his first career start, throwing an interception and failing to get star receiver DeSean Jackson involved in the offense.
Cal (5-1, 2-1 Pac-10) became the 10th team ranked in the Top 10 to lose to an unranked team already this season.
The two teams whom gained the most from the LSU and Cal losses are the Ohio State Buckeyes of the BIG-10 and the South Florida Bulls of the BIG EAST. Both enjoyed lopsided victories over marginal opponents. The Buckeyes blasted the Kent Golden Flashes of the MAC 48-3 covering ATS -31, and the USF Bulls trampled Central Florida 64-14 easily besting the -12 line ATS.
As expected, when the BCS Poll was released on Sunday, The Buckeyes held down the top-spot followed by USF at No. 2.
