Pittsburgh vs Rutgers College Football Odds, College Football Predictions & College Football Picks: The Big East race really heats up this week as four of the top five teams in the conference standings will face each other tonight and tomorrow night. The Pittsburgh Panthers, which currently occupy the top spot, meet preseason favorite Rutgers tomorrow night in New Brunswick, New Jersey. The big game kicks off at 8:00pm ET at Rutgers Stadium; it will be broadcast live on ESPN. College Football Odds at Bodog.com have the Panthers listed as a -3.5 against the spred road favorite.
Pittsburgh enters tomorrow's game with a 5-1 overall record (3-3 ATS) and a 2-0 mark in league play. Dave Wannstedt's troops have won back-to-back games, beating Big East foes Louisville and UConn, since losing 31-38 to North Carolina State in Raleigh on September 26th. Through the first six games, the Panthers are averaging 34.8 points while giving up just 18.8.
The key for Pitt in tonight's game will be establishing their vaunted rushing attack (166.5 rush yards per game) against a Scarlet Knights defense that is allowing a mere 65.2 yards per game on the ground. Dave Wannstedt expressed his concern about the Rutgers defense this week and indicated his team needed to be well prepared in order to get their sixth win of the season.
"They've got a lot of talent on defense," Wannstedt said. "They give you a lot of different looks. Different looks than we've seen. It forces you to handle it physically. But it really tests you mentally too. You've got be sharp."
The Scarlets Knights looked awful in their season opener against conference rival Cincinnati; however, they have played well since that embarassing loss, reeling off four straight non-conference wins. Pittsburgh will be the best team that Rutgers has faced since falling to the Bearcats, though. That fact has not been lost on Rutgers Head Coach Greg Schiano.
"This week is a huge challenge," Schiano said. "Pitt is an experienced group…they're an explosive offense and it's diffucult to choose what to emphasize."
College Football Odds Betting Trend: Rutgers is 2-8 straight up in their last 10 games as a home underdog in the month of October.
Pittsburgh Panthers -3.5 (-115), Over 46 (-115), -165 (Moneyline)
Rutgers Scarlet Knights +3.5 (-105), Under 46 (-110), +145 (Moneyline)
