Ohio State vs Wisconsin 2010 College Football Predictions: College football's defending national champion and the top-ranked team in the land bit the dust in South Carolina last Saturday night. Now the new No. 1 team in the AP poll, the Ohio State Buckeyes, will try avoid the same fate when they visit Madison on Saturday to take on the No. 18 Wisconsin Badgers at the hostile venue of Camp-Randall Stadium (7 pm Eastern, ESPN).
Bodog.com has Ohio State listed on its College Football Big Board as 4 1/2-chalk favorites versus the Badgers with a 49 total. Wisconsin backers are getting +160 moneyline odds as home underdogs while the Buckeyes are giving -180.
The Badgers are 5-1 SU but have been horrendous ATS by not covering a game at 0-5. Wisconsin's only setback SU was a 34-24 loss at undefeated Michigan State Oct. 2. Wisconsin has also posted wins at UNLV (41-21) and at home against San Jose State (27-14, Arizona State (20-19) and Austin Peay (70-3).
The Badgers feature a powerful rushing attack with the duo of junior John Clay and freshman James White. They rank 11th nationally with Clay 14th, with 115.3 yards per game to go along wtih nine touchdowns. White has seen more playing time of late and has 216 yards and four touchdowns through two conference games.
Through six games, Ohio State ranks first in the Big Ten in scoring offense (43.17), pass efficiency defense (93.81), pass defense (158.33), total defense (237.00), kickoff returns (26.79) and turnover margin (+1.67); second in rushing defense (78.67) and scoring defense (13.5); and third in the league in total offense (465.83).
Ohio State jumped out to a big first half lead versus Indiania in Week-6 and cruised to a 38-10 victory against Indiana on October 9. The Buckeyes covered in that game as a 24 1/2-point favorites, while the 48 combined points took the game UNDER the total.
Wisconsin won its Week-6 outing, a 41-23 result against Minnesota last Saturday. Wisconsin failed to cover in that game as a 21-point favorite, while the 64 combined points took the game OVER the total.
Reno Gold's Prediction: I expect the Buckeyes defense will be more than the methodical Wisconsin offense can handle. For the Badgers to have a chance they need to force Buckeyes' quarteback Terrelle Pryor into some mistakes. I think the Buckeyes are a touchdown better than the Badgers. My play is on OSU -4 1/2.
