Stephen Reaves is expected to get the start under center for the Golden Eagles in place of usual starter Jeremy Young, who has missed the last two games due to injury. Young is listed as day-to-day due to a high ankle sprain he sustained at Boise State in September.
The senior from Tampa, Fla., who has thrown for over 200 yards in each the last two games, has stepped into the role of quarterback, bringing his own style in replacing the injured Young.
"He is more of a drop back guy and more of a thrower, but he can still do a lot of things," said USM head coach Jeff Bower of Reeves, who has had to step in as a reserve. "The playbook is probably not as big with him, but he is still doing some of the things we want to do."
The Thundering Herd has not played at home since the New Hampshire game on September 15 and now returns home to face the preseason favorite to repeat at C-USA East Division champs.
Marshall, 0-6 for the first time since 1969, is coming off of a hard-fought 38-31 loss at Tulsa on Saturday. C-USA's top scoring offense was held to only seven second-half points as Marshall rallied from a 31-17 halftime deficit with a balanced passing and running attack.
Marshall senior quarterback Bernard Morris completed 21-of-37 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns, while also carrying the ball nine times for 33 yards to continue his strong play this season. Morris connected with seven different receivers in the game, but his top target was sophomore tight end Cody Slate who tallied six catches for 102 yards and a TD.
