Boise State Broncos at San Jose State Spartans College Football Pick: Betting Line-BSU by -7 ½ (Total 41); Kickoff 9:00 p.m. ET, Television-ESPN2; Spartan Stadium, San Jose, Calif. Betting odds provided by Sportsbook.com.
For those not familiar with San Jose State it might come as a surprise, the Spartans are one of the better teams in the Western Athletic Conference. We have become so familiar with Boise State and Hawaii over the past couple of years that we forget there are actually other schools in the league. And it’s true, most of them are not very good, but that is not the case with San Jose State. Friday San Jose State hosts the Boise State Broncos on their home turf at Spartan Stadium.
This game is expected to be close and probably even closer than what the oddsmakers have it. Oddsmakers at Sportsbook.com have Boise State installed as little more than a touchdown (-7 1/2) favorite with a 41 total. The two schools met there under similar circumstances in 2006 with the Broncos barely escaping with their lives in a 23-20 win. Then in 2004 it took the Broncos two overtime periods before slipping out of town with a 56-49 victory.
The Spartans are even better this year now that they have had a few years to grow under the guidance of Dick Tomey. The veteran coach is 22-21 in four seasons as the Spartans coach.
San Jose State is 5-2 SU losing two road games in September at Nebraska and Stanford. The Spartans lead currently lead the WAC in wins at 3-0. Since the Stanford loss Sep. 20, the Spartans have reeled off three straight wins including two difficult road wins at Hawaii and New Mexico State. The other, a 30-7 home win over Utah State. The Spartans have also been kind to their backers this season covering ATS in 3-of-5 posted games. The UNDER is covered in 2-of-3 games a total was posted.
No. 13 ranked Boise State is 6-0 and 2-0 in WAC play, must keep winning to fulfill any hopes of crashing the BCS party as it did in 2006. So far the Broncos have been impressive on both offense and defense. The Broncos got a signature win on Sep. 20 when they defeated Oregon 37-32 at Autzen Stadium in Eugene. The Broncos also picked up an impressive 24-7 victory at respectable Southern Mississippi earlier in October. On the season, the Broncos have covered ATS 3-of-5 line posted games. The UNDER has cashed in 2-of-3 games a total was posted.
