This weeks Thursday night college football game on ESPN looks to be a blockbuster event with the No 2 (BCS) Boston College Eagles bringing its undefeated 7-0 record into Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virg., to play the No. 8 Virginia Tech Hokies (6-1).

Other than Virginia Tech’s game with LSU, a 7-48 loss, Boston College is by far the best opponent Virginia Tech will face this year. Tech’s early schedule was dotted with weaklings of which the Hokies dispatched with ease. Tech has one impressive win at Clemson but the jury is still out on how good the Tigers really are. Wins over East Carolina, Ohio, William & Mary, North Carolina and Duke aren’t going to earn the Hokies much strength of schedule points.
The Eagles are a little better in the schedule department but not by much. A big win last time out at Notre Dame isn’t as meaningful in 2007 the way the Irish have struggled. Their most impressive win to date was at the always difficult Bobby Dodd Stadium against Georgia Tech.
Both Boston College and Virginia Tech are coming off a bye week so no advantage there.
This game looks like a toss-up featuring the great Boston College offense led by senior quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Matt Ryan facing off against the Hokies always stifling defense.
