Rutgers (5-2, 2-1 BIG EAST) seems to have righted its ship after losing back-to-back games to Maryland and Cincinnati and has a chance to knock off the second BCS power in as many weeks when the No. 7 West Virginia Mountaineers (6-1, 1-1) roll into Piscataway. The good news for the Mountaineers is they got some reprieve from their Sept. 28 loss at South Florida when Rutgers beat USF at Piscataway. The bad news for West Virginia is now they must travel to Piscataway. Viewers should be treated to a rushing clinic with Heisman Trophy candidates Ray Rice of Rutgers and West Virginia’s Pat White and Steve Slaton all in the same game. Kickoff is set for 12:10 p.m. ET with television coverage on ABC.
Oddsmakers at online sports wagering giant Sportsbook.com have installed West Virginia the favorite by -6 ½ points with a 57 point total.
The win last week over No. 2 South Florida marked the highest-ranked opponent the Scarlet Knights have defeated. Rutgers stopped the Bulls 30-27 last Thursday night in primetime on ESPN. Rutgers covered as a +2 ½ point home underdog while the combined 57 points scored went OVER the posted 51 point total.
West Virginia ran past Mississippi State 38-13 in Morgantown last Saturday to move to 6-1 on the season. The only blemish on the WVU schedule was a 21-13 setback at South Florida on Sept. 28. With the 25 point win, the Mountaineers came up short of the -26 point spread by a single point.
