After cruising to a 4-0 start, Nebraska took a major hit in its first conference game, falling 48-17 to Wisconsin at Camp Michigan State vs Nebraska Spread 2011 CFB Predictions Week 9Randall Stadium. The Cornhuskers defense looked ill prepared for the Badgers multi-dimensional offensive attack, but quarterback Taylor Martinez certainly aided the Wisconsin cause with an 11-for-22, three interception outing.

The Huskers performance in Madison was an uncharacteristic one for both the team and Martinez, and it looked as though it lingered when they took the field the next weekend to face Ohio State at Memorial Stadium. Nebraska found itself in a 20-6 hole at the break and the Buckeyes even led 27-6 almost five minutes into the third frame.

Martinez and running back Rex Burkhead rallied the offense in the final two quarters, though, as Martinez threw for two scores and rushed for another while Burkhead scored on a 30 yard catch and a 17 yard run. The Cornhuskers went on to win the game 34-27, which along with last weekend's 41-14 pasting of Minnesota, helped preserve the team's hopes for a Legends title.

While the Wisconsin game was a big one for the Huskers, Saturday's meeting with the Spartans carries even more weight. Right now Michigan State sits atop the division standings with an unblemished 3-0 conference record. Michigan and Nebraska, both of which own the same 6-1 overall mark as MSU, are 2-1 in league play.

Should the Spartans, who own the nation's second ranked defense (222.9 yards per game allowed), pull off the upset against the Huskers this weekend, they will all but assure themselves a spot in the Big Ten Championship Game.

Michigan State closes out its schedule with Minnesota, at Iowa, Indiana, and at Northwestern. Anything can happen, but realistically, Saturday's game at Memorial Stadium and the November 12th game in Iowa City represent the only real threats to a Spartans division crown.

Michigan State's meeting with Nebraska marks its third road game of the season. Mark Dantonio's troops lost at Notre Dame and won at Ohio State so they should be used to a hostile crowd and a big game environment; however, neither the Irish nor the Buckeyes are the equal of the Huskers from an offensive standpoint. If Martinez and company can avoid shooting themselves in the foot, they should overcome the Spartans.
