Baylor ran its record to 6-2 last weekend with a 47-42 victory over the visiting Kansas State Wildcats. The
win improved the Bears conference record to 3-1 and, after Oklahoma's loss at Missouri, vaulted them to the top of the Big 12 South standings for the first time since the formation of the conference.
Baylor's explosive offense, which is averaging 34.9 points per game this season, racked up an eye popping 683 yards in the win over K-State. Quarterback Robert Griffin continued his exceptional play, throwing for 404 yards (26-of-38), four touchdowns, and one interception. Wide outs Kendall Wright and Josh Gordon were also huge in the win, combining for 13 receptions, 254 yards, and four scores.
Running back Jay Finley had his best effort of the season in helping dispatch the Wildcats, rushing 26 times for 250 yards and two touchdowns.
Texas, fresh off its road upset of Nebraska, suffered its second stunning loss of the season last weekend, falling at home 28-21 to the Iowa State Cyclones.
Iowa State jumped all over the Longhorns early and took a 14-3 lead into the break. Texas responded in the second half, but could not complete the comeback as Garrett Gilbert tossed three interceptions, two of which came after halftime.
Gilbert, who has struggled to fill the shoes of the departed Colt McCoy, completed 34-of-57 passes for 344 yards, two touchdowns, and the afroementioned three picks in the loss. Texas' rushing attack also came up short in the shocking setback (first ever loss to the Cyclones), accounting for 96 yards on 29 touches.
The Longhorns are a perfect 10-0 in their last 10 games against the Bears; however, they are 1-2 against the spread in their last three meetings against Art Briles squad.
