The Hawkeyes Ricky Stanzi, who completed 25-of-37 passes for 258 yards and three touchdowns, nearly engineered a game winning drive, but poor clock management on the part of Head Coach Kirk Ferentz ended Iowa's opportunity to kick a game winning field goal. Stanzi also contributed to the failed comeback attempt, throwing an ill-advised shovel pass to the middle of the field with just seconds remaning on the clock (no timeouts left).
Iowa has owned Michigan State at Kinnick Stadium of late, going 5-0 against the Spartans in their last five meetings at Iowa City.
