Miami at Virginia 2010 College Football Picks

by Reno Gold on Saturday, October 30th, 2010

No. 22 Miami at Virginia 2010 College Football Picks:  Miami (5-2), ranked 22nd this week in all major polls including the BCS Standings,  controls its own destiny, sitting behind Virginia Tech in the ACC Coastal Divison standings by one game with a 3-1 league mark. The Hurricanes will get a chance to take care of business a couple weeks down the road when they play the Hokies, but today they must take care of another team from the Old Dominion when they travel to play the University of Virginia Cavaliers (3-4, 0-3 ACC) at Scott Stadium in Charlottesville (12:00 PM ET, ESPN).

Miami at Virginia 2010 College Football PicksOnline sportsbook SBGglobal.com lists the Hurricanes as 15-chalk favorites versus the the Cavaliers in this one with a 51 total. SBG Global is staying away from posting moneyline odds here.

Now after winning two straight, Miami seems to have regained some confidence it may have lost after losses to ranked teams, Ohio State and Florida State earlier in the season. Lat week the Hurricanes throttled North Carolina at home 33-10. They covered the betting spread as 6 1/2-chalk favorites on the SBG Global college board while the 43-total went UNDER the posted mark.

Virginia was a 48-21 winner in their game last week at home against Eastern Michigan. They covered the 24-point spread as favorites, while the total score (69) made winners of OVER bettors.

Last week, teams ranked in the AP Top 25 went 13-2 straight up vs. unranked teams, and 11-4 vs. the SBGglobal.com pointspreads. So on the season, ranked teams are now 117-16 SU and 66-56 vs. the numbers when playing unranked teams.

Also last week, in the four games that matched two ranked teams, the higher-ranked squads went 3-1 both SU and ATS vs. their lower-ranked opponents. On the season, higher-ranked teams are now 18-9 straight up and 15-12 vs. the numbers when playing lower-ranked opponents.

Reno Gold's pick: I'm picking Virginia to cover as a +15-point home underdog.
